    Our Old Van

Just arrived back from our deliveries down at Plymouth Saturday, 3.30 am start 8pm finished, sixteen and a half hours, round trip 640 miles

I set off on my weary drive down to Plymouth at 3.30 am this morning (Saturday) and was it dark!  rain and wind what a start to the day.

First call of the day was at Bath arrived at 7am as arranged with the customer, with four gas fireplaces, three Crown full polished fireplaces and a Sovereign full polished fireplace. Mantels choosen were the Kingston 56 Carrara mantels with the Crown inserts and a Bedford pine with the Sovereign. It took me an hour to unload the van in the pouring rain. As with a lot of houses in Bath they all seem to have steps leading up to them or at least our customers houses do. After unpacking all the crates and putting the fireplaces in the right rooms I left with the customer very pleased with there new fireplaces.

Then onto Frome. just about half an hour away, arrived just after 8.30 am, still raining, This customer had a Bedford fireplace set with a Tulip insert highlighted all set up for gas with Stovax Rose and Bud tiles, a lovely looking fireplace just right for a Victorian Terrace. Then on my way to Plymouth three customers deliveries.

Arrived at the first drop in Plymouth at 11.40am, Another crate to unload, a Kingston 63 carrara marble this time with a Fitzwilliam arch insert set up for gas. I had to block the road while unloading this one so apologies to the locals for the brief road block. A stunning fireplace going in a Large Victorian terrace.

Second drop in Plymouth, when I arrived it was a relief to see a parking place big enough for our van right out side the customers house although on the opposite side of the road, I didn’t want to upset the locals again by blocking the road because this customer is having two fireplaces and a stove a Fire fox 12, and any body in the industry reading this knows how heavy they are. The first fireplace a Nightingale highlighted with a Roundel pine mantel all set up for gas with some lovely stovax tiles Blue Iris. The next fireplace one of my all time favourites Large Adam 60 inches of pure splendour going around a Galway tiled insert highlighted with Stovax Plant and Urn tiles, this time set up for solid fuel. It was put in the front room of this magnificent Victorian terrace. Well what about the stove you might ask, Well the customer Mrs Newcombe decided to give me a bit of a fright and quitely said to me it had to go upstairs her husband must have been in on the joke because he was on the other end lifting it with a friend, oh well it was put in the hall way just by the door relief all round I think after the struggle over the road. I left leaving a very happy customer with there new fireplaces.

On to the last drop in Plymouth, this road is very busy very slow traffic nose to tail I found the house and quikly parked half on the path half on the road, hoping I don’t cause to much traffic problems. This customer is in the middle of what looks like a total refurbishment, the fireplace chosen is the Bedford Belfast with Jazz Honey and Red tiles and set up for solid fuel. This fireplace is again one of my favourites, I do this delivery as quick as possible thinking of all the slow moving traffic. I get back to the van with thoughts of the long drive back to Lincoln, But just one more delivery to do on the way home, in Malvern.

So off to Malvern I go, 176 miles from Plymouth, Three hours fifteen minutes the sat nav says, what would we do with out sat nav it would, it did actually make our day a lot longer. I arrived at this customer spot on 5pm I forgot to say this customer was having a stove a Firefox 5, Approaching the house I could see the wonderful view from the customers house over the valley to Worcester was just breath taking, and guess what more stairs from the road to the house but well worth the struggle (with the customer helping) down those stairs just for that view. You could see the changing weather coming dark and cloudy to one side and the remanence of the sun from the other side. I get back to the van with the thoughts of home and my lovely welcoming fire all warm and cosy, well in approx 3 hours time.

I get back to Lincoln at just after 8pm, with a load of very happy customers and a van full of empty crates.
