New Arival at Victorian fireplaces

New Arival at Victorian fireplaces

Great Joy as I become a Grandad yip-pee.!!!

What a day last Thursday was, Hayley my daughter was in hospital with high blood pressure, waiting to see the doctor as usual and waiting, as it happens she had been in hospital all week trying to get out, of hospital that is. She just hated it in there, as every body does. Her blood pressure kept going up and down.

Lynn (soon to be a Nanna) and I were visiting Hayley that afternoon. As we arrived in the ward the curtains were drawn around Hayley’s bed a right commotion around her, a doctor, a midwife and a couple of nurses the full treatment. Lynn poped her head around the curtain to see what was happening.

Then all hell broke out, Lynn quietly but firmly said to me, “Go and get Dan Quick”, Dan was due to visit Hayley after I returned from my Lunch, “Go now” she repeats – “I said whats happened,” well you would wouldn’t you!

Off I went as quick as possible with all that I have just witnessed racing round in my mind, but not knowing what was really going on at all, I just new it was serious. As I approached my car, I rang Dan to tell him he has to go now to see Hayley, ” your in for a long night so pack your laptop” I said with that I jumped in the car to get to work.

As I approached the car park at work his car was still there, “what, are you still doing here!” I thought to myself. He had just been talking to a customer on the phone about their chosen fireplace, I am sure he could have let Dean take the call.

Dan just loves talking to customers and taking a sale or two. I said to Dan again that your in for a long night. With that he went on his way to the hospital, as with me not really knowing what’s happening back in the ward.

When Dan arrived at the ward, his thoughts must have been in a turmoil he was whisked up to the delivery floor where a team of surgeons and nurses were waiting, Hayley was already having the anesthetic administered to her spine, a minute later and Dan would of missed everything.

What had happened was that the little baby (well not so Little as  it happens) had been in great distress, so a c-section was urgently required. The umbilical cord was actually wrapped around the baby’s neck twice. If the birth had been natural it would have been too distressing for the baby to go through, and the out come could have been terrible, and not worth thinking about.

Joshua David Gibbs was born in Lincoln County Maternity hospital on 09/09/10, at 3.13pm, 7.13 pounds, doesn’t he look lovely. A big thank you to all the staff who helped Joshua being born in this frantic way. New Mum Hayley and Joshua are out of Hospital now and are doing very well, a great out come had by all.  From a new Grandad.

Beware the Fireplace Cowboy…

As with most online retail industries there are those companies that just can’t be trusted or relied upon. We have been receiving a few reports recently where people have been let down hugely by fireplace companies and also of companies just disappearing into the wind without a trace. Unfortunately for those customers who trusted the businesses they have now been left out of pocket. This is very disheartening for us to hear and we just wanted to point out a few tips for when you are purchasing a fireplace – if you decide to go somewhere else that is :-)

1)  Always check to make sure the company is established.
A good well established company will be able to provide you with all the support and answers you need when buying a fireplace. This advice will help you hugely as with most established companies they will have years of experience and will be able to offer you a wealth of knowledge to aid you.

2)  Always check to make sure they are people.
Because when you are browsing on the internet you only see what somebody wants you to see it can be very easy to deceive you into thinking that they are a good reputable company.

  • They can make their website look nice, with similar features/design, information and images as a good reputable company.
  • They can also show feedback online which may not be true.

One very reliable and easy way of identifying a good company is to be able to visit their premises. Some companies who are online only do not have the security of a bricks and mortar business.

New Showroom

New Showroom

After a lot of hard work designing, building and decorating we have finally (very nearly) finished the showroom.

Victorian Fireplaces has been supplying beautiful fireplaces all over the country now for over 18 years and over those 18 years we have also had a few showrooms, however for the past couple of years the closest thing we had to a showroom was a dusty office with a couple of fireplaces on display.

For the past year or so, in our conversations building a showroom kept on popping up and I think it was either October or November when David really started to get enthusiastic about the idea of it and we started drawing up some ideas and planning where things could go and then wham everything just started to happen at once, typically right in the middle of the busiest period of the year – Winter! Before we knew it we moved to a new building, had contractors building a building inside the new building and our joiners were in constructing the display units. Thankfully everything just fell together perfectly and with David’s keen eye for the decorative items the showroom just looks amazing (and I am not being biased).

We really hope that you get a chance to come visit our showroom where a hot drink, a comfortable arm chair (yes David this is a reminder to go and buy them!) and the best advice on fireplaces will be waiting for you!

Hope to see you soon,
Dan

p.s. if you head on over to our gallery we took some pictures of the showroom so you can have a wander before you come.
