A trip into Lincoln and a lesson in…. Steampunks?!
Here at Victorian fireplaces in Lincoln, we or well I actually write, what I think are interesting or some may say daft things on our Fireplace blog, like fireplace poetry and articles about paintings with fireplaces in them, I have even found some ghost stories with fireplaces in. Some time ago I did a little article about Lincoln city and our hugely successful Christmas market, and the where to visit in Lincoln which I thought was quite good.
Well I came across something in Lincoln that I didn’t know existed, perhaps its my age, any way. I was walking through town last Saturday(11th September) as you do, with my wife and son shopping.
During our little shopping trip in town we couldn’t help but notice some people dressed rather strangely to say the least, well a nice strange, like Victorian or Edwardian clothing with a twist. Some of the people were waring goggles and leather hats like the old racing drivers would have worn, in the early days of car racing. As I went into my local butcher in the bail (part of the historical part of Lincoln is the bail short for Bailgate) and Kenny the proprietor shed some light on it for me,
he said “their Steampunks” – “what” I said, Steampunks well what was happening is that for the second year running Lincoln was holding the Lincoln Steampunk festival in the Lawn complex, the organisers called it, The Asylum, it was being held in the Lawn. The Lawn was once a Mental hospital, it crossed my mind that it was very apt and I bet the organisers had planned it that way.
Quite a spectacle to see these people dressed this way promenading through our lovely city.
So when I got home I did a bit of googling to see what its all about and I found it quite interesting, even came across some fireplaces in the steampunk style, which all leads to our kind of fireplaces, at Victorian Fireplaces.
So if you want a steampunk fireplace just give us a call with a picture and we will make it for you.

Fireplace Delivery Driver Retires
Very sad day today (Friday 17th September) at Victorian fireplaces.
Eddie our van driver has retired after seven years with us, and approximately 700,000 miles up and down the country, delivering our fireplaces. To Eddies credit he has not had an accident in his van not even a scrape, during this time he has had three vans in his charge, a great achievement. Its a shame our other van drivers haven’t had such an unblemished record !!! but time will tell.
I will say that the vans have let Eddie down a few times, with breakdowns of various types, yes even brand new Mercedes sprinter vans break down, unfortunately.
Eddie was a great ambassador to his chosen profession and a fantastic guy very witty and his knowledge of Lincoln’s history and surrounding area is second to none.
Eddie was the first one into work every day and nearly always the last one to leave.
I wont be able to replace Eddie, I just hope I can find some one that comes near him, but I know I will be looking a long time.
Thank you Eddie for the last seven years, you will be missed by all at Victorian fireplaces, especially me.- Have a great retirement.
New Van
Our New Mercedes Sprinter Van from H & L Garages Lincoln, arrived this morning. It will complement our other Sprinter Van nicely, on there very long trips up and down the country. Its maiden voyage was down to Suffolk this afternoon, and tomorrow its first trip overseas to the Isle of Wight, nice little run for it.
New Post at Victorian Fireplaces
New post at Victorian fireplaces
Its such a relief now all the snow and ice has gone from the roads it did cause a few problems on our deliveries but we over came them.
We have had a few changes in our office over the Christmas break and the start of the new year. Dean has joined us in the office, his back ground is as a Mantel maker in the Factory of Knapp woodworking our sister company which makes all our wooden Mantels. His roll will be to keep an eye on all our sales processing and customer relations. So If you have a problem just email Dean and he can sort it out straight away. Dean will also be trained into the Arts of our websites and help Dan in the creation and running of our fireplace websites, which you may not be aware are all created in house by Dan, and are the envy of the fireplace trade.
Over the next few weeks I will post more interesting articles about fireplaces and some more unusual fireplace articles, so keep an eye out on this blog you will see it first here.
Lincoln Christmas Market
Lincoln Christmas Market
Lincoln Christmas market has got under way this afternoon at 4 o’clock, it’s on until Sunday night well worth a visit and while you are here think about Victorian Fireplaces for a beautiful fireplace.
The Lincoln Christmas market first started back in 1982 with just 11 stalls in the Castle square and look at it now one of the biggest Christmas markets in Europe with over 300 stalls and over 100,000 visitors.
The Lincoln Christmas market covers a large area of the uphill area of Lincoln see map. You will need to give yourself plenty of time to look around the market, all the shops on the high street and shopping areas in town are all open late. If you have a problem parking you can park outside Victorian Fireplaces showroom free of charge and walk to the market from there. Have a lovely time visiting Lincoln city and happy shopping.
