Questions on Amsterdam Cast Iron Fireplace
- Question from: Nick
- Q:Hi,
We purchased the above fireplace some time ago, we are extremely delighted with it however where we had rubbed a mark off the black area we have noticed the area now looks a little bit shinier and some of the black has rubbed off completely revealing the shiny surface underneath.
Could you suggest a polish we can use to touch this up to remove this unsightly mark?
Thanks,
Nick - A:Hi Nick,
The best thing to use is a high temperature matt black paint.
Shake the can very well then spray a small amount into a small plastic container (the lid of the can is sometimes best). Then using a paint brush apply the paint sparingly to the affected area. Don't just apply loads of the paint, try to build up a few layers and always wait for one layer to completely dry before applying the next.
Always before you start applying the paint, test the paint in an inconspicuous area to ensure the colour matches. You may find that you will not get a 100% perfect match without respraying the whole fireplace but it should definitely blend in far better than polished metal :-)
I hope this helps.
Many thanks,
